The Normative Force of the UNESCO Convention on Cultural Diversity

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, and especially in the face of the current challenges of the power of the digital age, and the plural referentials that challenge not only cultural policies but also the better living together, the question of cultural diversity is at the heart of the agenda. This note invites us to a prospective odyssey in the debate on the discovery of the process of transformation at work in international cultural law in the light of the UNESCO Convention on Cultural Diversity… The aim is to show, on the one hand, that this instrument, which condenses the material scope of several existing instruments, instils normative force into political slogans and, on the other hand, that the relevant case law gradually dispels the imprecisions of its normative core.
